It is divided into upper, middle and lower Valnerina. It also borders to the east from the Tronto valley, to the west with the upper Velino valley, while to the south with the Piana Reatina and culminates in the north on the Sibillini mountains. In fact, to the south, the Valnerina opens onto the Terni basin touching the Martani mountains and then closes again on the Nera gorges, near Narni.
Therefore a few kilometers after the Nera (female because it is a Nymph) dives into the Tiber near the Roman ruins of the city of Ocriculum. Obviously there are fantastic places known to all, tourist attractions such as the Marmore waterfall, Cascia, Norcia, Castelluccio, Spoleto and much more.
However, here you will find only those hidden places, silent witnesses of time just waiting to be rediscovered.

There are several interests that can be stimulated by the natural and cultural history of the Valnerina . Above all the historical part, frozen in the period of greatest splendor, from the high to the late Middle Ages.
For example, you can find perfectly original castles, churches, ruins and hermitages . Furthermore, from a naturalistic point of view, there are the most disparate environments going from the bottom of the valley to mountains that exceed a thousand meters in height. Not to mention more or less large caves and cliffs.
On the other hand , climbing, rafting and cycling are very common activities in Valnerina and allow a different way of exploring the valley. Even the motorbike is an excellent way to reach the most distant and fascinating villages, between asphalted and dirt roads with well-designed hairpin bends and curves (unfortunately there are still no guardrails for motorcyclists).
In particular, the former railway from Spoleto to Norcia is an accessible way to everyone to get to know another phase of life in this area.
